- [S32] The Citizen Advertiser, AUBURN Mr. Andrew Guter, 96, passed away at Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Andy was a lifelong resident of Auburn, born Nov. 10, 1912 to Michael and Mary Guter. He was a member of the Auburn Fire Department until he retired at the rank of captain. He was also a master carpenter whose hands touched and beautified many of the homes in the Auburn and Owasco Lake area. Springside Inn was enhanced by many hours of love and labor. Andy was an avid outdoorsman. He could also be found at Highland Golf Course playing "18," or Song Mountain skiing with his friends and family. Andy was a humble self-made man. He taught himself to play golf, ski and do many other things by reading avidly about the theory and then putting that theory into action. Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Shaw Guter (Betty); brothers, John Guter, Peter Guter, Stephen Guter; and sister, Helen LoCastro and his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Nichols and husband, John, of College Station, Texas; sons, David Guter and wife, Jane, of Colchester, Vt.; and Col. Peter Guter (Ret.) and wife, Teresa, of Niceville, Fla.; also his grandchildren, Catherine Tralmer and husband, Dan, of Spring, Texas, Stephen Nichols and wife, Leyla, of Sandy Hook, Conn., Amy Nichols, of College Station, Texas, Jill and Jessica Guter, of Colchester, Vt., and Justin and Melia Guter, of Niceville, Fla.; his great- grandchildren, Christopher and Macy Tralmer, and Arri Nichols. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, in St. Alphonsus Church on Genesee Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph"s Cemetery. In lieu of calling hours, friends are invited to visit with the family at St. Alphonsus Church from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m., prior to the service. The family would like to especially thank all the angels that Andy had at Mercy Health and Rehab. They gave him the love and care he needed and assisted the family immensely. Dad we love you and cherish all the memories we have of you. Memorial contributions may be made to the special funds of the Auburn Fire Department., Mercy Health and Rehabilitation Center or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Farrell"s Funeral Service Inc., 84 South St., Auburn.
